*If you want to be around in 10 years you've got to do something to differentiate yourself from the pack.
*I'm at a really great place in my career. I don't have to watch my step yet; I just have to get my name out there. Once it's out there, it's up to me to captain the ship to where I want to go. *I'm reminded of who I am, who I was, and who I'm supposed to be. (On what it's like being home in Boston with his family) *Anyone who's had a tattoo knows once you get your first one, as you're walking out the door, you're planning the next. *It's made of really thick latex that really does not breathe. It's a three-man process trying to get in and out of it. And then you don't want to drink too much water, because taking a leak takes about an hour. (On the Human Torch suit for "Fantastic Four") *I answered phones and got coffee. I was talking to agents all day and one day I said, "I know I'm just a voice on the phone, but I'm also an aspiring actor. Would you mind if I auditioned for you?" One of them let me. (On how Chris got his break into acting) *"Orphan King" was very low budget-we didn't even have trailers. They gave us pieces of wood to change behind. *I've played a lot of idiot sidekick; girl-crazy, not-too-bright characters, but I think I'm more reserved and a little brighter. *Johnny is fun to play. Playing any superhero really would've been fine by me, but Johnny Storm is particularly fun because he's a little bit of a hothead. He's a hotshot. *I went to the Top Gun (flight academy) because I wanted to model Johnny after a fighter pilot. *I read an article that said, "Fantastic Four is the First Royal Family of comic books. (This film) is the first grouping of superheroes as a family unit, and my costars and I really have a good dynamic. Everyone's so excited and dedicated. *I was pretty young but I remember thinking she was so beautiful. And look at her now. (Chris on first seeing co-star Kim Basinger in "Batman") *I think he's got a huge career ahead of him. I mean, c'mon - he's a beautiful-looking guy. (Kim Basinger on Chris) *I wouldn't advise it. Not if you're trying to take your work seriously and keep your head in the game. Just dont' do it. (On working with alongside lovers) *Animal lovers. When some girls meet a dog, they say, 'Oh, cute dog.' Pat. Pat. Others see the dog and drop to their knees to play. If a girl does that, she's a keeper. (Chris on his type of girl) *When I found out I had to take off my shirt in Teen movie, I panicked and hit the gym. I was like, "It's going to be on film, documented, for my children to see. I can't be 140 pounds. I need to put on a little bit of muscle." *Initally there'd obviously be frustration, but you gotta think you asked for it. You know when you got into this there's that possibility. So you can bitch as much as you want and you can complain, but bottom line? I can breathe and I can walk and I can see and I got people that love me, so things are never going to be that bad. (On what he'd do if a thousand girls were chasing him down the street) *The Celtics are legendary. When I was younger my father has season tickets to the old Garden, so I used to go all the time--I remember seeing Larry Byrd play Michael Jordan. But my father's a dentist in Boston, and he was gonna do work on Steven Tyler's mouth. He ended up not getting the work done, but still, it was the biggest deal in my house. *I met Erika (Christensen) first when I screen-tested opposite her. It was me and five other guys fighting for the part, and you don't want to act like you're trying to kiss up, so I didn't do anything and let everyone else screw themselves up. *It's such a fun process. It's not work. Anyone who says it's work is full of shit and they've been doing it for too long. (On what keeps him passionate about acting) *Even though I know it's not Scarface and I had to have a banana in my ass, I love those kinds of movies. (After asked if he'd ever do another teen movie) *I could have played a character who, once he believed it, kept a level head, but instead I made him a kid who panics, wears his emotions on his sleeve, and doesn't know what the fuck he's going to do next. It makes the audience wonder what they'd do if put in that same situation. There are a million ways to make something realistic, but as an actor, you want to make the most interesting choice. *Acting involves the ability to portray something realistically, but that's just the tip of the iceberg. The real challenge is reading a script and making interesting choices that create a character that isn't on the page. Many times the words in a script can trick you. *Whenever you get to work with talented people, people obviously more talented than me, it's the best way to get better. It forces you to step your game up. Doing anything with William H. Macy was great. He's the type of guy that if there's a dull moment he will just kick out a joke. They were always these smart jokes I didn't even get half the time. *I hate close talkers. I don't know if that's as much of a fear as a hatred. I'm scared of flying. *There are many good actors in Chris' age group, but Chris stood out. He's like a young Tom Cruise. (David Ellis, director of "Cellular") *Any leading man runs the risk of being flash-in-the-pan eye candy. I can't imagine anything worse than being looked at as a shallow caricature of yourself. *Not Another Teen Movie was just like a frat party on the set. Everyone was there to have a good time, to make a silly movie. The Perfect Score was a little more relaxed. *As soon as I have the means and the land and more time, I'm going to load myself up with dogs. I want, like, five! *I grew up on the East Coast and our beaches are like - not that great. At least the beaches I went to were kind of cold and dirty. Don't get me wrong. If you want to put me on a beach in Bermuda where the waters are crystal clear, I'm not going to say no. But as far as spending a day at the beach - I burn. I'm pale as a ghost. The beach does not agree with me. I'm more of a woodsy guy. *I have a dog . . . she's half English bulldog, half American bulldog, big dog. Her name is East and I get a lot of - why East? You know, I don't know why East. It's not necessarily because I'm from the East Coast. I like names that aren't names. I think you can name your dog Microphone and in about a month he's going to acquire a persona - oh, he's Microphone. Couldn't be anything else - that's who he is. So I just like the sound of one syllable, East. It sounded good and now of course, I can't see her as anything else. *I love movies. I've always loved movies, and there's nothing better to me than going to see a movie that provokes thought and conversation and - a great date to me is seeing a great movie and then just spending hours afterwards talking about it, why you liked it, why you didn't like it, other films you've liked. |
